A couple weeks back I was trying to find free MIDI filessimply to try out a couple different plugins and see how they worked.

Needless to say, it took me a lot longer than expected sincemany of the sites I found either wanted me to register, pay, or jump throughloads of other hoops in order to download just a single MIDI file.

This is why I took some time to research the best websitesthat allowed me to download MIDI files completely for free.

Now, so that you don’t have to go through the same ordeal as me, here’s a list of the best websites where you can download free MIDI files and loops.

The 5 Best Websites for Free MIDI Files are;

BitMidi.com

BitMidi is probably the best-known website to download FreeMIDI files.

They have loads of songs in a wide range of genres; From electronic to rock, pop and country, all the way to classic.

If you’re looking for the themes of any Nintendo game likeMario, or for songs like bohemian rhapsody, Africa by Toto, the themes ofalmost any movie or TV Show, BitMidi has got you covered.

In fact, they provide over 113.224 MIDI files which were curated by volunteers around the world.

Midi

You can play the file right there on the website to check ifit’s really the one you’re looking for and then simply download it with oneclick… It’s that easy.

No registration- or jumping through any sort of hoopsrequired.

Additionally, there’s no limit on the number of files youcan download each day.

Check out BitMidi.com here.

MidiWorld.com

MidiWorld is very similar to BitMidi in the sense that youdon’t need to register in order to download the files and they don’t put alimit on the number of files you can download.

Heavy Metal Midi Files Download

The Website looks a bit old, but it works just fine and it does offer roughly 10.000 MIDI files; I couldn’t find the precise information so I calculated how many they had myself and came to that rough estimate.

The only downside is that you can’t play the files beforeyou download them.

Now, MidiWorld has mostly Pop, Rock, Classical and Jazz MIDI files available which are all from the public domain, meaning that none of those files have copyright and you can use them for whatever project you like, even your YouTube videos.

However, this means that these files tend to be pretty old.

Still, it’s a fantastic resource which you should definitelycheck out.

FreeMidi.org

This website offers over 25.000 MIDI files, which isn’t as high as what BitMIDI has to offer, but it’s certainly a lot!

And since most of them were created for commercial material(Video games, commercials, etc.), this means that you won’t be able to find thefiles available on this website almost anywhere else.

You can download both the MIDI and the MP3 file, which isconverted directly from the MIDI, as well as play it directly from theirwebsite to find out how it sounds.

It even has a “Request MIDI File” rection where you canrequest a file that’s not already on the website.

Check out FreeMidi.org here.

MIDIs Free

MIDIs Free is a site that offers over 100.000 free MIDI files that you can download. Over the years, they have compiled all the free MIDI files around the web with the intention of being able to provide them all on a single website.

Even though there are a huge number of files available, it’s not that easy to find them since you can’t browse them by genre, but rather alphabetically. Of course, there’s still the alternative to search via the Artist’s name or song name, but it would be a great addition to the site to be able to view the files by genre.

Lastly, every time you want to download a file you have to wait roughly 15 seconds before it starts.

Carlo’s Midi

Carlos is the man behind this website and he creates all theMIDI files himself.

He even goes as far as to let you request songs and he will try to create the MIDI files for you.

You will be surprised by the huge number of free MIDI fileson his website, especially considering that it’s just a single person creatingthem.

Just like BitMidi and FreeMidi.org, you can play the files directly on the website to see how you like them.

The downloads are completely free and you don’t need to register or anything, plus, if you’re not sure what to download and are just looking for fun songs to get, check out the “Most Downloaded” section to see what other people like.

Lastly, you can subscribe and pay a monthly fee to get early access to MIDI files, access to his discord channel, and more.

They also offer some premium downloads which actually docost quite a bit, but the free stuff is pretty damn good.

Note: They retain all the copyright to the files; so, don’t resell them and don’t post them anywhere else for download, however, they do have a Royalty free section.

Check out Partners in Rhyme here.

GrooveMonkee

GrooveMonkee offers a couple free loops from professionalMIDI packs which include a wide range of genres.

There’s also a selection of free MIDI bass loops by Alex Evans that also have matching drums, which you can download for completely free!

The only downside here is that you need to register in order to be able to download the files.

Other than that, great website!

MIDI DB

AT MIDI DB you will be able to find demo songs in MIDI that include all instruments of the song, and you will have access to the typical top 40 hits, as well as rock songs, pop, hip-hop, country, classical music, and many more.

It features a very basic interface with a search bar that allows you to search by artist, genre, or title of the song, but that’s about it.

Additionally, they also offer a paid service (MIDI.com.au) where you will have access to more MIDI files as well as backing tracks, but these aren’t free and about $4 per song.

Nonstop2k.com

Nonstop2k.com focuses primarily on electronic dance musicMIDI files.

It offers over 11.000 free downloadable files as well asloads of premium ones.

If you’re looking specifically for electric dance musicrelated files like House, Trance, Electro, Dubstep, and other similar genres, then you might want to give this website a try.

Now, while the files are free and you don’t need to registerin order to download them, there’s a limit on how many you can download perday.

  • Registered: 5 Files per day.
  • Premiumaccount: Unlimited.

They also offer other premium MIDI files, and in order toget those you need to purchase credits.

Heavy

Metal MIDI

If you’re looking for purely heavy-metal style MIDI files, then this is definitely the website for you.

Instant Drum Patterns

This website offers a total of 460 different drum patternswhich you can download for absolutely free.

They all come in a single download file.

This is a good solution to electronic drumming for people who don’t know too much about percussion.

But that’s really it; no other MIDI tracks of other instruments or full songs.

Check out Instant Drum Patterns here.

Prosonic-Studios

Here you will find loads of free MIDI drum loops that soundpretty damn good.

You can even download the MP3 version to have a listenbefore downloading the actual MIDI file, and there’s a section where peopleshowcase the music they created using these loops.

You can also buy the premium Blues & Rock-n-roll librarythey sell which contains about 52.000 loops, at the price of $25.

I personally haven’t tried the premium version, but the freestuff is definitely worth checking out!

And lastly…

MidiMelody.ru

Yes, this website is completely in Russian, but you can usechrome’s built-in translation tool and you should be able to use the websitejust fine.

It doesn’t require you to create an account or anything, just download the files and that’s it!

Listed by Genre

Now I’ll list a couple of the most famous songs of each genreand their links to the websites where you can download the MIDI files for free.

Rock-n-Roll

Pop

R&B, Hip-Hop and Trap

EDM

You’ll need a MIDI Controller

In order to be able to use these plugins properly, you will need some sort of MIDI Controller.

While you can use your mouse to map the MIDI in your DAW, it’s a lot faster and easier to do it with a keyboard/controller.

My recommendation here is for you to get something like the M-Audio Oxygen 25 MK IV MIDI Controller which you can find at Amazon at a very affordable price, plus it comes with some extra software like Pro Tools First.

Files

Conclusion

The three websites I liked the most are BitMidi.com, Carlo’s MIDI, and Freemidi.org simply because of the sheer amount of files available.

Heavy Metal Midi Files Downloads

However, every single one of the websites I listed is prettydamn good and all/most of the files are available for free.

I hope this information was useful.

Have a great day!

Hard Rock Midi Files

Even though you don’t need a MIDI keyboard to produce music, it is highly recommended due to how useful and productive they are.
